Deuteronomy is one of the most important books in the Old Testament - in the entire Bible.  When satan tempted Christ three times in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11), Christ rebuffed him from Deuteronomy each time: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Deuteronomy 8:3); “You shall not put the LORD your God to the test” (6:16) and “You shall worship the LORD your God, and serve Him only” (6:13).  Christ teaches us to defeat satan over and over, having faith in the Person & Character of God through total immersion in the truths of Scripture.

This is why Moses wrote Deuteronomy.  Moses was teaching God’s people how to live and not die: by carefully focusing on, remembering, cherishing, obeying and ordering their lives according to every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.  Deuteronomy is Moses’ last book – his dying book.  Moses himself had violated God’s Word and would die without entering the Promised Land (Numbers 20:12; Deuteronomy 34:5).  An entire generation of Israelites died in the wilderness, over 600,000 adult males, because they disobeyed God’s Word (Numbers 2:46; 14:23; Hebrews 3:18).  Therefore, before he died, Moses wrote the first 5 books of the Bible - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy – as a legacy, so that God’s people would read, remember, cherish, obey, worship, love and serve God, instead of experiencing His fierce wrath because of their disobedience and lack of faith (Hebrews 4:2).

From Genesis to Revelation, from Moses to Christ, the core of the spiritual life remains the same: to cherish the Person & Character of God through careful attention to and reverence for God’s Word.  During Summer Celebration 2012, Grace Church of Sacramento will apply these same lessons that both Moses and Christ taught in the wilderness and in their ministries:  God’s people, who are rebels at heart, must always go BACK TO THE SCRIPTURE.

Money, the Bible says much about it.

On the negative side, it can compete with God for 1st place in your heart. Christ said: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24).

Paul said, “For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang” (1 Timothy 6:10).

Money can ruin your life.

On the other hand, believers can use the money God has provided for great blessing. Paul said: “He who gives, let him give with liberality” (Romans 12:8). And, “Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, Who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.  Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share”  (1 Timothy 6:17-18).

Money can be a great blessing to you and others.

How are you handling God’s money?

For over 30 years, Jim Rickard has helped single believers and couples to be good stewards of God’s resources.  His expertise includes not only church finances, but individual stewardship, saving, budgeting, debt management and retirement planning.  Jim’s  teaching on biblical stewardship may turn what has been a curse in your life into something that gives God great glory.

Marriage is a gift of God.  God instituted marriage, created the first marriage, ordained the rules of marriage, blessed marriage and decreed that what He has joined together, no man should separate (Matthew 19:6).  He instituted marriage so that man would not be alone (Genesis 2:18), would produce godly offspring (Genesis 1:28), would not fornicate (1 Corinthians 7:2) and would show adoration and faithfulness to Christ as the LORD of the Church (Ephesians 5:24).

However, marriage is under attack.  The courts, the schools, the media and secular culture now teach that multiple marriages, homosexual and lesbian marriages, broken marriages and fornication is acceptable to God.  Pride, selfishness, sexual sin and individual rights (instead of responsibilities) are now the norm, so that more than ever individuals are alone, unfruitful, unholy and offensive to God.  If marriage is once again to please God, glorify Christ and give lifelong joy to men and women, those who are married must return in obedience to God’s Word.  Then God will once again be pleased to bless marriages for the sake of His own name.  This is the responsibility and privilege of the Christian, to conduct his own marriage in the fear of God and so teach others.  Bringing your marriage more in subjection to the Word of God for God’s glory and your blessing is the purpose of this conference.  May God bless you, as you obey His Word from the heart in all things.

The Protestant Reformation of 16th Century Europe is a vital topic of study for every Christian because it is a dramatic historical example of how the Church of God recovered the genuine Gospel by a return to reading the Bible. The Apostle Paul warned the Colossian believers: “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8). The Church must be captive to Christ alone! However, through the centuries, ceremonialism, legalism, mysticism and philosophy impacted the minds of God’s people and clouded their understanding and love for God’s saving truth. Great men like Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin and John Knox revived God’s Church by calling believers back to faith and obedience to the Bible.

The great reformations of the Bible have as their foundation a return to God’s Word. The reformation under King Josiah occurred when Hilkiah the High Priest “found the book of the Law in the House of the LORD” (2 Kings 22:8). The reformation under Ezra occurred when the great scribe “set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel” (Ezra 7:10). During the greatest Reformation of all, our LORD severely rebuked the Jewish leaders because they had “set aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition” (Mark 7:8-9). Satan continually attempts to divert the mind of the Church from genuine faith and obedience to God’s Word.

History belongs to God. God is sovereign over history. He is the LORD of it. Christians say: "History is His-story." Indeed it is.

However, we often forget or remain ignorant of how glorious His-story is. Again this autumn, Grace Church of Sacramento presents Reformation 2011: a celebration of His-story.

Reformation Conference 2011 focuses on 3 things: the Man, the Message and the men of His-story.

The Man is Christ Jesus: the God-Man, the Perfect Man, the Redeemer, the Lamb of God, the High Priest, the Coming King, the Sovereign, the LORD of the Church.

The Message is The Gospel: the Good News, the Saving Message, the Word of Life, the Blessed Proclamation, the Ultimate Truth, the Call to Reconciliation.

The men are Christ’s faithful servants, from the past and from the present. Christ’s faithful witnesses from the past include John Wycliffe and the Puritans. Men from the present include Pastor Steve Fernandez, President of The Cornerstone Seminary, and Dr. Michael Canham, Professor of Systematic Theology and Apologetics at The Cornerstone Seminary.

Become more of His-story.

Reformation 2009 dealt primarily with the Word of God, and how faithful preachers like Martin Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli and John Knox rearranged the lives, destinies and realities of 16th Century Europeans by rediscovering God’s saving truth (the Gospel) in the pages of Scripture and faithfully proclaiming it to everyone in the face of constant and vicious opposition.

Reformation 2010 deals primarily with the unchangeable, holy and gracious character of God, and how Holy Scripture presents and impresses the realities of God’s character on the hearts and minds of Christians so that their thoughts, words and actions reflect and radiate the glory of Christ to all men, spiritually dead or alive. Paul said about his own presentation of Christ in preaching: “For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life” (2 Corinthians 2:15-16).

Qualified, tested and faithful men, preachers of the Word of God, from The Cornerstone Seminary in nearby Vallejo, California and from Lincoln, California will present and impress the character of God and Christ onto your own heart in this fabulous weekend of preaching from Holy Scripture. They will speak on God’s grace, God’s choice, God’s sovereignty and God’s judgment so that you also will more accurately understand and radiate the character of Christ in your life.

If you have questions about human free will, the binding and blinding nature of sin, predestination, whether you can lose your salvation, if man is good and whether hell is a reality, attend Reformation 2010, listen to the solid preaching, ask questions at the Q&A, and be challenged and transformed for the glory of God in Christ
